Last week on January 23rd. Lluvia successfully defended her thesis entitled “Preliminary phytochemical study along with antibacterial and antioxidant activity evaluation of Chenopodium graveolens (Willd)”, which presented in order to get her Bachelor’s, as Pharmaco Biological Chemist.

El pasado 23 de enero Lluvia defendió exitosamente su tesis, titulada “Estudio fitoquímico preliminar y evaluación de la actividad antibacteriana y antioxidante de Chenopodium graveolens (Willd)”, que presentó para obtener el título de Químico Farmacobiólogo.

Last thursday the students of the Pharmacognosy subject went on a fieldwork to the hill El Vigía, in the city of Ensenada, Baja California.
The fieldwork consisted in a travel in order to know the flora of the region, which belongs to the coastal scrub, and a couple of colorimetric tests for the detection of secondary metabolites in plant samples.
El pasado jueves se llevó una práctica de campo con los alumnos de la materia de Farmacognosia, a los cuales se llevó al cerro El Vigía en la ciudad de Ensenada, Baja California.
En dicha práctica se realizó un recorrido para conocer la flora de la región, de tipo matorral costero, así como un par de pruebas colorimétricas para detección de metabolitos secundarios en muestras de material vegetal.

El 6º Encuentro Estatal de Jóvenes Investigadores en Baja California 2019 ya se acerca, por lo cual se invita a la comunidad universitaria a participar en el mismo.

The last 5th of June the 1st. Contest of Phytochemistry-Pharmacognosy Projects were hold, by students of the QFB bachelor degree.
In this contest the students chose their plant material to work with, based on a series of predetermined topics, which are related to the Pharmacognosy subject studied this semester.
After a tough deliberation from the judges, the winners of the contest were the following:
Third place: “Extraction, allelopathic activity and chemical characterization of the essential oil of Origanum vulgare“, by the students Luis Castro, Gabriel Lona and Sara Sánchez.
Second place: “Pasilla chile and it antimicrobial potential”, by the students Juan Guzmán, Jason Mann, Marcela Maytorel and José Orendain.
First place: “Antibacterial effect and preliminary chemical characterization of Salvia apiana extracts”, by the students Gloria García, Geovanna Lagarda, Mariana Ochoa and Luz Rosas.

El pasado 5 de junio se llevó a cabo el 1er concurso de Proyectos Fitoquímica-Farmacognosia 2019-1, donde participaron alumnos de la carrera de QFB.
En dicho concurso los alumnos eligieron el material vegetal con el cual trabajar, a partir de una serie de temas predeterminados relacionados con lo que han revisado durante su curso de la materia de Farmacognosia.
Tras una ardua deliberación por parte de los jueces, los ganadores de dicho concurso fueron los siguientes:
Tercer lugar: “Extracción, actividad alelopática y caracterización química de aceites esenciales de Origanum vulgare“, por los alumnos Luis Castro, Gabriel Lona y Sara Sánchez.
Segundo lugar: “Chile pasilla y su potencial antimicrobiano”, por los alumnos Juan Guzmán, Jason Mann, Marcela Maytorel y José Orendain.
Primer lugar: “Efecto antibacteriano y caracterización química preliminar de extractos de Salvia apiana“, por los alumnos Gloria García, Geovanna Lagarda, Mariana Ochoa y Luz Rosas.
